Just IGA

Hi, Iga here!

This website is mostly about my tennis, about the next tournaments, about my initiatives and activities, but this part of it is simply about me. I hope that, thanks to my story, someone will find his or her passion in physical activity, in sports, in tennis.

Reading

I’m a self-confessed bookworm, a true “book lover”—however you’d like to call it. Reading is my way of relaxing and growing, and I use my time waiting for matches or travelling to dive into books, which is a big part of my life.  I mostly read novels, non-fiction, and biographies—generally the longer, the better, because my journeys tend to be quite long.  Lately, I’ve been gravitating towards personal development books recommended by my team. In 2023, I hosted the “Read with Iga” challenge on Instagram—more about that in the “Iga Recommends” section.

Music

Music has always played a significant role in my life.  It has often been a refuge, helping me deal with emotions,  and it’s absolutely essential to my energy on the court. Certain songs remind me of people, places, and memories. Before matches, I prefer fast, intense, rhythmic music—Pearl  Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Led Zeppelin are just a few examples. In my downtime, though, I prefer more calming tunes. Yes, yes, there’s quite a bit of Taylor Swift on my playlist, but I enjoy many other artists as well—discover more in “Iga Recommends”, where I share some cool playlists.

What I like...

Cats, travel (obvious part of my job, but also a perk), good food, coffee are some of the constants in my daily life. I am often on the move, and my days are filled with challenges and new experiences. Lately, I’ve become increasingly interested in business, certain areas of law, and investing.  Let’s see where these interests take me in the future.

I like to run my career on my own terms. I have a lot of goals to achieve, both on and off the court, and the more experience I get, the more rewarding the road to achieving them becomes.

Motivation

Tennis was not love at first sight. Competing and pushing my own limits was. I had to mature into a passion for tennis. Without a doubt, my biggest sports inspiration – and I probably won’t surprise anyone here – has always been Rafael Nadal. Mastery in sports is one thing, but what impresses me the most is what values he lives by and what kind of person he is despite his incredible success. This is definitely the path I would like to follow.

Tennis has made me a recognizable person in Poland and in many places around the world. People and the media are often interested in me and in what I am doing (which can sometimes be overwhelming), and I want to use this attention to bring about positive change. That’s why I speak openly about the importance of mental health, the joy and benefits of physical activity and sports—especially for children and young people.

My beginnings

And how did it all start? I wouldn’t be here where I am if it wasn’t for my family. It was thanks to my dad that I was able to find my place and something that I have an aptitude for. He was the one who showed me the way to the point where I am today. I also wouldn’t have reached this point without the amazing people I’ve worked with, especially my current sports team. Since October 2024, I have been working with a new tennis coach, Wim Fissette. For several years, my sports team has consisted of my physiotherapist and fitness coach Maciej Ryszczuk, my psychologist Daria Abramowicz and sparring partner Tomasz Moczek. Thanks to my entire team, including the management part, I can focus on tennis and continue developing in my career.

Well, that’s right: I focus on tennis. First and foremost, I am a professional tennis player. It’s an incredible sport, and I hope that thanks to this website, you’ll give it a chance—whether by watching matches, booking a lesson, or perhaps even introducing your child to it. Sports, in general, bring joy and health, but I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t try to inspire you to embrace this particular sport, to which I devote most of my life.
